Newton Nordic AB is a Swedish technology company that develops and offers specialized product and support solutions for stabilization and control of moving cameras in the international TV and film industry.
Newton Nordic handles all its core functions inhouse, such as research and development, manufacturing, sales and support. The firm is headquartered in Linköping, close to the Linköping University and one of Sweden’s leading clusters of tech startups. Before September 2019, Newton Nordic was called Intuitive Aerial.
Newton Nordic was founded in 2011 by engineer Mårten Svanfeldt and entrepreneur Jonas Lindqvist in Linköping, Sweden. Drawing from the area’s heritage in aerospace technology and inspired by the unrestricted camera movement in computer graphics, the company started out developing aerial rigs for cinema cameras. The ensuing product, the Black Armoured Drone which later became AERIGON®, pioneered in its field as the first turn key heavy lifter for professional film cameras, and was the first UAV to fly the high-speed Phantom Flex 4K camera. AERIGON has since then been a successful tool in the film industry but was discontinued in 2019, in favour of NEWTON. See more about the AERIGON drone.
Utilizing the camera control and stabilization technology developed for the AERIGON drone, the company in early 2016 introduced the NEWTON® remote stabilized head, which alongside AERIGON was operated through a proprietary control panel. Following the success of NEWTON in the TV broadcast industry, Newton Nordic put a greater emphasis on ensuring the reliability that is crucial during live broadcast. This has resulted in that NEWTON now is used by multinational corporations and in the biggest broadcast events in the world. Looking forward, Newton Nordic will continue to strive being the top choice for remote controlled solutions in the broadcast and film industry.
Since the inception, the ambition of Newton Nordic is to develop superior products at the forefront of the film and TV broadcast industry. To ensure innovation and quality, our CTO Mårten Svanfeldt early choose to focus on the development on proprietary technology. At Newton Nordic software programmers work side by side with mechanical and electronics engineers in the development of the advanced and robust products the company has become known for. Through innovation of for example new automatic control technology, motor design, sensor-fusion algorithms and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), Newton Nordic has build its own technological platform from the ground up which now is the foundation of all development. Mårten Svanfeldt has led the groundbreaking progress of the AERIGON drone and continued to develop the NEWTON system into a reliable platform for the biggest live broadcast productions in the world.
Through technological innovation in image capturing, Newton Nordic strives to bring TV viewers closer to events around the world.
The mission of Newton Nordic is to enable TV and film producers to excel in their content creation and in this way deliver visually more intriguing experiences to viewers worldwide. With proprietary technology and innovation, we aim to drive the evolution of TV and film production through continuous engineering in the fields of motion, gravitation and optics.
The Nordics has a long tradition of technological innovation aimed for reliable use by demanding operators worldwide and Sweden has become famous for its neat product design and a thriving media industry. We at Newton Nordic believe that we are a product of this heritage. The local aviation industry was an inspiration in the creation of the company and most of our engineers come from the local university. Swedes are often described as modest, ambitious and striving for consensus, an image we believe suits our company culture very well. Through teamwork we work hard to create quality and functional products with clean designs that our customers can depend upon. The desire for teamwork is also reflected in our relationship to our customers and we want to grow our business with the success of our customers, on their assignments. We make discreet products and we do not like to brag, but we encourage producers to test our products and see for themselves why NEWTON is relied upon in high-profile assignments around the globe.
Plug In. Relax.
The ambition at Newton Nordic is to develop sophisticated and powerful products for the most demanding operators and productions. One key component is to make them versatile and practical on set. Operators and technicians should have a product that is intuitive, fast and easy to handle. The production management should also experience a seamless integration to their workflow as our products are made to be connected with other equipment, from cameras and mounting rigs to broadcast facilities and TV stations. To ensure instant integration of our products in the film and broadcast ecosystem we cooperate with other companies in everything from development to sales.
Since our products are made for big live productions, it is of utter importance that they never fail on set. At live broadcast of for example sport events there are no chances for retakes and we at Newton Nordic feel honored of the trust that our customers put in our products. We aim to engineer quality equipment that prove reliable on the job but we also, as a company, strive to be a solid companion to our customers on their assignments. If questions or problems arise, we are a quick phone call away and we constantly work to ensure the continued success of our products on set.
